Mayor Thomas Koch and the Koch Club announced that Michelle Stenberg will be recognized as the 2023 Richard and Simone Koch Youth Service Award winner. The annual award recognizes an individual that has contributed to the development and success of young people in the City of Quincy. The award is named after the Founders of the Koch Club, who also participated in numerous charitable causes in Quincy.

Stenberg has been very active at the Quincy Youth Arena for more than two decades. She began her career in 1996 and started the Youth Kiddie Class in 1997 for 3-5 year olds. She offered ice time to the QPS Stars and Cares programs. She was also a coach in the Quincy Youth Soccer League from 1988 to 1996. Her work has impacted thousands of Quincy youngsters in a positive fashion through the years.

“My favorite part of the job at QYA is the children,” said Stenberg. “I love meeting all the children that come through the programs here. I have made so many good friends. The hockey community is a unique entity; families that support each other in good times and in sad times as well. When those families come together, they are an unparalleled force.”

Stenberg is a graduate of Quincy High School. She attended UMass Amherst and holds a Bachelors in Education/Early Childhood Development. She currently serves as a Board Member and Treasurer of Marie Droste Counseling Services.

“Michelle has made a tremendous impact on the lives of countless children in our community,” said Mayor Tom Koch. “We are pleased to honor her decades of commitment to the Quincy Youth Arena and the entire community. She truly represents what this award is all about.”

This year’s Flag Day Parade will take place on Saturday, June 10th. The parade will step-off at 7 p.m. Stenberg will be honored in the parade and at a flag-raising ceremony immediately following the parade at Pageant Field.
